Rina Seo is stepping into the spotlight on her own terms.
Known to thousands as the poised and powerful leader of *Velvet Code*,
one of South Korea’s rising independent girl groups, Rina has officially launched her solo career—and it’s anything but predictable.
Born in Bologna, Italy to a Korean father and Italian mother, her bicultural upbringing laid the foundation for a unique voice
and vision that now guides her solo artistry.
Though she's been in the public eye since her late teens,
music has always been personal for Rina. “Before the choreography, the cameras, the stages...
it was always just me and a notebook,” she shares. As a child, she spent long summers in Italy,
listening to her mother’s opera records while sketching lyrics in Korean. By 16, she'd moved to Seoul for training—and the rest is pop history.
But this next phase is different. This time, she’s not leading a group. She’s leading herself.
Rina’s solo sound is a departure from *Velvet Code*’s high-gloss electro-pop. Her debut EP leans into moody synth textures,
stripped-down R&B, and narrative-heavy songwriting. Many of the songs were co-produced with experimental beatmakers
in Tokyo and Paris, revealing her desire to cross sonic borders and reject industry formulas.
“It’s not about going darker—it’s about going deeper,” she says.
In the studio, Rina is meticulous. She’s not just contributing vocals—she’s storyboarding the visuals,
tweaking synth patches, and recording harmonies at 3AM to get the tone *just right*.
Her team describes her as “vision-first,” someone who treats every song like a cinematic scene.
“If I can’t feel the scene, I can’t sing the line,” she explains.
Looking forward, Rina has big ambitions. She’s already planning a live showcase that blurs the line between concert
and performance art—complete with immersive visuals, stage installations, and real-time audience interaction.
She’s also quietly writing a short film, intended to accompany her next project. As for touring?
“South America is calling,” she says with a grin. “And I’m ready to answer.”
But at the heart of it all, Rina’s goal is simple: to create space.
“I want to be someone people listen to when they need to breathe. If my music makes them feel even one percent more understood,
then I’ve done my job.” One thing is certain—Rina Seo isn’t just starting a solo career. She’s crafting a legacy.
